Summer Scent League

River and I participated in a C-WAGS Summer Scent League held at Anything Goes for Dogs in Marysville. River has been participating in scent trials since March 2015 and has titles at levels 1-3. She needs one more leg for a Level 4 title and she's needs a few more qualifying rounds at levels 1 and 2 for her ACE titles.

We attended the scent leagues in June and July which is held two Wednesday's per month in the evening. Here's a pic of a Q ribbon. River earned a total of 14.

River has a great time searching for scent, although she usually likes to run around the room then she'll remember she's supposed to check out the objects on the floor. But in the end she usually alerts to the odor by sitting or laying down next to the right object.

But I think she really loves it when other people pet and pay attention to her and she gets to socialize with other dogs. It definitely makes for a late evening but the part I like the most is the result. You get one sleepy puppy.

Jacobean Journey Quilt - Trunk Show

On Saturday, January 17, I went to my local quilt shop, Quilt Beginnings, and everyone who made either a Jacobean Journey or Feathered Star quilt last year brought in their projects. Some were finished, close to being finished or still in pieces. Below is my quilt. Its brown, cream, peach and a melon like color. The blocks have been really fun to do and putting all the blocks together have definitely challenged me and some of the other ladies I spoke with. The next two pictures, are of a mother and daughter and their quilts. They have a similar theme with black, gray, red, white and dark gold color. When asked if they were going to attempt to do the next Hoopsister's embroidery quilt "Sewn Seeds," which there's a sneak peak of at the end, they both said, "Nooooooooooo." Jacobean Journey Quilt - Inner Border

Its been several months since we started the quilt as a BOM but since I'm adding on both inner and outer borders, I figure I better get started making those blocks. The inner border comprises 2 blocks. I need 36 of one (straights) and 4 of the other (corners) so I'm going to try to do roughly 10 per month or so. I'll discuss the inner border corner block in another post. Inner Border Block This block I call the "straights." Both of these blocks are different from the rest so far. For these two blocks you have to piece fabric together BEFORE you begin the block. The inner block has a diamond pattern in it and you're going to sew 3 strips of fabric together (fabrics 3, 2 and 4) and then line up the seams onto the stitch pattern. I have found this to be the most difficult step. Its not really difficult but you have to be very accurate. You sew the fabric strips together with 1/4" seam and if they're off your seams will not match up, your ...

Jacobean Journey Quilt - Block A6

Well, we finally got all of our blocks for the quilt to finish up. This was my first block of the month and I'm fairly sure its my last. This was just too slow for me. I know they want to you to come back to the quilt shop each month to try to get you to buy more stuff but face it, we're going to buy what we need where we want to. If I need something and I want it now or I know the shop has it, I'll go get it if not then I might look online for my item. All I know is, I don't like getting my patterns a few at a time. I could've been much farther along in this quilt if I had had my patterns. So block of the month style just doesn't work for me. So let's talk about this Block A6H5. This block was fairly easy to do. I guess they are all now. Practice makes perfect, but there are a lot of thread changes which is fairly consistent with the applique border blocks.
